Vapour Pressure Tool

ESIG has developed a calculation tool in order to determine whether a hydrocarbon solvent is a Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) as defined by the Directive 2010/75/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 November 2010 on industrial emissions (integrated pollution prevention and control).

This Directive does not specify any reference method for the determination of the vapour pressure of hydrocarbon solvents.

Our tool is applicable to hydrocarbon solvents with an initial boiling point above 200°C and calculates the vapour pressure at 20°C. It facilitates the often complex task of establishing the vapour pressure of hydrocarbon solvents of low volatility.

The calculation method is based on a simple set of physico-chemical data such as distillation range and aromatic content of the hydrocarbon solvent product and has been validated with experimental data.

The tool can also be used by solvent users (formulators) such as coatings, adhesives and printing inks producers. Therefore, it helps producers and formulators of solvents to work on VOC emissions as outlined in the VOC Directive.
