ESIG Solvents Human Exposure Database
The European Solvents Industry Group (ESIG) has released a major update to its Solvents Human Exposure Database, now the largest single source of solvent exposure data. Developed in collaboration with the Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) in Edinburgh, this invaluable tool now includes:
- 353 publications
- 3,856 samples
- 12,432 measurement results for 247 solvents.
This makes our database the largest single source of solvent exposure data available to the industry and a broader audience.
The data demonstrate that the Chemical Safety Assessments under REACH are accurate and qualitative enough to ensure the reliability of assessments of safe use for workers and consumers.
Key Updates for the updated ESIG Solvents Human Exposure Database 2024
- New Data: Expanded with publicly available data from 2022 and 2023.
- Extensive Review: Over 3,300 articles screened, with 22 studies newly added.
- Enhanced Accessibility: Searchable online for registered users.
Originally developed in 2000 by Caldwell* et al. to store solvent exposure data from 1961–1998, the database has undergone continuous updates to maintain its scientific rigor and relevance. Covering over 22 years of research, it includes detailed measurements for oxygenated and hydrocarbon solvents, supported by a comprehensive quality assessment.
Why It Matters:
This robust resource supports researchers, manufacturers, and industry professionals in:
- Improving workplace safety and health.
- Ensuring compliance with evolving legislation.
- Advancing science-based sustainability practices.
