Join us on 15th & 16th September 2026 in the Cefic office in Brussels for our compact ESIG Solvents Training, organised together with the Solvents Industry Association (SIA). Two days – clear, practical, and accessible even without a chemistry background.
Why join?
-
- Understand why solvents matter across countless applications
- Strengthen decision-making in regulation, sustainability, and daily practice
- Learn and exchange in a small, interactive group
What’s included?
-
- Introduction to the Solvents Industry: origins, production, roles and relevance
- Solvents & Applications: from everyday uses to emerging technologies
Who should attend?
Newcomers to the solvent sector, policymakers, regulatory and sustainability professionals, young talents, and anyone looking to broaden their perspective.
Costs
-
- Free of charge for ESIG members

Don’t miss out – this training shows why solvents are truly “Simply Essential”.
New on YouTube: Solvents & Static Electricity – An Invisible Hazard Made Visible
In January 2026, ESIG and the Solvent Industry Association (SIA) released a new joint safety video: “Flammable Solvents and the Hazard of Static Electricity.” The film demonstrates how a familiar everyday phenomenon can quickly turn into a serious industrial hazard when solvents are involved.
Static electricity is always present in solvent-handling processes – during pumping, mixing, pouring, filtering, or agitation. Under the wrong conditions, this invisible charge can accumulate and ignite solvent vapour–air mixtures, triggering fires, explosions, and significant damage.
The video explains in clear, practical visuals:
-
- How static electricity is generated in liquids and equipment
- Why certain conditions lead to ignition
- Which simple operational measures can prevent charge build-up
- How earthing and bonding work to keep processes safe
- Why filters, flow rates, and equipment choices matter in everyday handling
It also shows real-life examples from industrial settings, highlighting both typical risk scenarios and best practices that significantly reduce the danger.
A must‑watch for anyone working with flammable solvents – practical, insightful, and essential for safe operations.
Watch the English version on Video Part 1 and Part 2 and discover those videos in 5 EU other languages and our ESIG YouTube channel.
Preview: New Best Practice Video on Safe IBC Handling
ESIG and the Solvent Industry Association (SIA) are currently developing a new best practice video on the safe use of IBCs, scheduled for release on YouTube later this year.
IBCs are widely used across the solvent industry – but their safe handling is far from trivial.
The new video will highlight, in a concise and practical way:
-
- what defines an IBC and how testing, certification, and inspections ensure safe performance,
- which risks must be considered – from fire behaviour to structural failure and electrostatic charging,
- why filling operations require special attention, especially with low conductivity solvents where static build-up can create an ignition hazard,
- and which measures truly, correct earthing and bonding, proper filling techniques, safe storage, fire protection, ventilation, and compliance with relevant standards.
With clear visuals and real-world examples, the video aims to strengthen safety awareness throughout the entire supply chain.
More details coming soon.
