As part of its mission to promote the safe use of solvents and support manufacturers and any user of solvents in adhering to the highest safety standards, ESIG has recently updated its Best Practice Guidelines (BPG) \u201cStrategies and Techniques for Measuring Solvent Vapour Concentrations in the Work Environment\u201d that outline a structured approach for measuring exposure to solvent vapours at work. It includes different methods for measurement and their appropriate application in identifying sources of solvent emissions, assessing personal exposure levels, and evaluating the effectiveness of exposure control measures.<\/p>\n
A wide range of techniques and equipment are available for measuring airborne solvent vapour concentrations. They can help in the process of assessing and controlling exposures to solvent vapours in the workplace, and it’s vital to select the right equipment, use it correctly, and interpret the results accurately.<\/p>\n
Measuring exposure to chemical substances should be integrated into a comprehensive health risk assessment program. This helps in selecting and validating the effectiveness of suitable exposure controls.<\/p>\n

Another successful two-day training session was conducted by our colleagues from the UK Solvents Industry Association (SIA) at the Cefic office in May. The first day centered on providing a general “Introduction to the Solvents Industry,” while the second day was dedicated to “Solvents and Their Applications.”<\/p>\n
Attendees appreciated the practical insights shared, from exploring various applications and industry challenges to diving into business and safety considerations.<\/p>\n
