The first solvent human exposure database was commissioned by ESIG in 2008 and published in 2009.\u00a0 It compiled all information available on occupational hygiene related to the use of hydrocarbon solvents and oxygenated solvents. The content was based on a thorough review of papers and studies published between 1998 and 2005, which contained primary exposure data from the use of those solvents. At that time, the database was seen as valuable support for the development of the REACH Exposure Scenarios.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n Under REACH, all uses of hazardous substances need to be assessed to demonstrate safe use. To do so exposure scenarios needed to be developed. They can either be based on measured or estimated (modelled) exposure values. Exposure models might be conservative as for instance aggregated exposure that needs to be used (e.g 8 hours models) does not correspond to real life situations. Measured data can be used to show to what extent models are correct or provide support for statements that the risks are adequately controlled.<\/p>\n Ten years after the publication of the first database, ESIG decided to update it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The new version was launched earlier this year and has already more than 100 subscribers!<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span>It is now the largest single source of solvent exposure data available to industry and to a broader audience.
You will find information and measurements from literature on oxygenated and hydrocarbon solvents exposure published over the past 20 years including a quality assessment. It is user-friendly and anyone can assess and search the database and download information.<\/p>\n
