The 8th ESIG Product Stewardship Award goes to Multisol Group
Multisol Group, an independent, specialist chemical distributor, that operates across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, won the 8th ESIG Product Stewardship Award in 2011. The European Solvents Industry Group (ESIG) presented the award to Multisol Group at Cefic's European Responsible Care Conference on 22 September 2011 in Brussels.
Multisol impressed the jury with the extensive work it has done over the past few years with students to demonstrate that solvents and chemicals are an integral and necessary part of everyday life and that the chemical industry is both safe and committed to Responsible Care.
Multisol has always believed in educating the public about the safe handling of solvents and chemicals demonstrating that a business can flourish by operating in a safe and accountable manner. Students from different years were invited to the Manchester site in order for Multisol to demonstrate how business applies solvents and chemicals in real-life and how the substances are handled safely and recycled after use.
One project involved an initial survey of students’ opinions of the chemical industry and then measured the changes in their perceptions at the end of the programme. Results following interactive sessions showed an immediate change in attitude of students to more positive perceptions. By providing a link between classroom learning and the real-life application of chemistry in everyday life, Multisol has been able to reach out to students, improve their view of the chemical industry and also demonstrate that the industry has the potential to offer a varied and fulfilling career.
The ESIG Product Stewardship Award recognises companies that achieve significant health, safety and environmental improvements in the handling, storage, use or transportation of solvents. Organised for the 8th time since being created in 1999, it is designed to showcase and reward excellence and continuous progress in these areas.
The award winner was selected by an independent jury comprising senior representatives from the European Commission, the trade press and health, safety & environment experts from trade associations, other than ESIG.
