Solvents & Air Quality

Air pollution has been one of Europe's main political concerns since the late 1970s. Very often, worsening air quality is reported in the media, however several air quality parameters have improved. In particular, over the past ten years, there has been a reduction in emissions of the ozone precursors VOCs and NOx in the EU. For example, between 1990 and 2000, emissions of VOC in EU Member States were reduced by approximately 30%. This has resulted in a reduction in ozone peak levels across Europe. Progress is continuing and is supported by a package of measures developed by the European Commission over the last few years.
