As the name indicates, dry cleaning of garments and leather cannot be achieved with water. Therefore, solvents combined with surfactants are used in closed cleaning machines. Traditionally, perchloroethylene was broadly used in this application but this is becoming increasingly replaced by hydrocarbon solvents.
